Humm.. pushrod engine are far more reliable than any japanese engines. The LS engines have set countless endurance records.

So true. If you want a proper engine go buy a AMG Mercedes. Every engine is hand built by the same mechanic.

“One engine, one man”… something like that.

the greatest thing about the ls-series engine is the aftermarket…not just the aftermarket, but the huge following that comes along with the long lived small block chevy. the sbc is probably the most popular engine in performance and motorsports ever. i have an e36 m3 with a 3.2L I6 that weighs 100lbs more than a 7.0L LS7 V8.
they are light, powerful, affordable, strong, and more race proven than anything ever made.
you’re very limited as far as upgrades and aftermarkets go with bmw and

most people would take a reliable car over powerfull or faster car any day. I am sure normal people would not like to keep taking their cars to service. GM does need to learn a thing or two from foreign car companies (not from Hundai or Kia though)

Then your post should be a source of great embarrasment because a simplistic, antiquated engine (Corvette) built by rednecks just won the GT1 class at LeMans recently against a host of engines that are far superior in concept and design. What say you?

To be fair, Europeans have to be more concerned with fuel economy because they pay 3-5 times the price for petrol. It can also be said that their emission standards cut power because they are much quieter i.e. restricted than US cars.

It’s true they are not but that’s because they don’t have to worry about true competition given the massive amount of governmental subsidy that is provided them.

Heh, the only proper engines made by the Italians or Germans are put in cars with price tags that exceed twice or more the cost of what your average LS motor comes in.
BUT HEY, what would anybody want with an LS7 or LS3 right? We should all just make engines rev to 8K and have retarded high compression ratios in order to guzzle EVEN MORE GAS.

Which is why the LS7-R won some kind of Global Race Engine of the Year Award?

GM has been actually testing the new cam-in-cam VVT system for pushrod engines. Look it up, it was first used on the newest, and probably last, generation of Dodge Viper.

it’s not that we don’t know, it’s just we **** the engine, it’s not a technical marvel.

the bmw can get an acceptable fuel economy while being @ traffic jams in the morning.
because it has variable adjusting cams.

the pushrod engine wil reach the end of production in les than 5 years or close to it.

heck, it doesn’t even have automatic valve adjuster, meaning you need to see a docter every 20.000 m or so.

while the bmw never needs to be check at it’s valves, so who is better?

  17. naturalyshockedon 06 Feb 2010 at 6:29 am

    Toni

maybe the old engine is, but the chassis *****.

    what about the gasstation?

it doesn’t even have a variable cam system, like most other do.

so this engine wil never ever be efficient, but burn fuel.

Its funny, cause that LS2 engine is compact, light, powerful, reliable, easy to maintain, easy to upgrade, easy to service, incredibly fuel effecient for a large engine. Considering its a pushrod, they’ve really pushed the tech. to the max and made a engine that can kick a B.M.W m3 engine any day of the week… People without any knowledge or a little respect make me sick…..

  21. kenstrozon 18 Feb 2010 at 9:08 am

yes but chevy is still a more powerfull car

G.M needs to stop being so greedy and put more money in there technology. Example the new B.M.W m3 engine the most advanced v8 in the same price range.

If you read the history of this engine you’ll know why they didn’t design it as a DOHC. It requires less maintenance , is more reliable and costs less to build and it was generally designed for the north american market . It did win Ward engine of the year award it’s first year out in 97 .
